Goblin Art

Some time ago, I joined an on-line artist community called Deviant Art. When a cover artist was needed for the goblin series, this became a resource to find the right talent. Many people hold contests on Deviant Art for various reasons. People draw pictures according to the criteria and submit them. Somebody wins. Everyone enjoys themselves. We are talking about creative people here, most of them love their art.

So, I held a contest for a cover artist. Two of my favourite artists joined and I 'met' many new ones. Some great art was submitted. In the process, I found just the right artist, Regina Curtis, whose images represent the spirit of the goblin world that I've created.

I have hopes that eventually, the success of the series will lead to an art book where all of the other incredible images, as well as the fan art that artists have done of my characters, can find complete expression. In the meantime, this page is a thank-you to all of those artists who took the time to create an entry for the contest and to get to know my characters a little.

You may find the artists' own websites or Deviant Art pages by clicking on the pictures.

The winning entries by Regina Curtis include two wolfrider goblin pictures and one of the Dance. Her gallery contains a variety of fascinating images, including a comic strip that is well worth reading. I expect it will attain cult status of its own one day.
Regina also provided some excellent images of one of the most intense characters in the book, Le-ina. There is some room for interpretation of how much Le-ina's lower body resembles fish and how much resembles legs. She is a creature not quite as fishlike as a Melusine, but still very much a water creature. You'll want to stay clear of her teeth!

Wolf Riding was a popular theme, not least of all because it characterises some of the most eventful action in the middle of the story. Here we have two versions of a wolf riding goblin by Ben Grau and one by Colin Jenkins.

Ben Grau tackled a couple of other scenes from the book as well, depicting them amazingly accurately from brief descriptions of a story that was not yet released. Here we have Count Anton defending Talla from Jerrold, and Anton again beating Ranalf at chess.

Le-ina captures the imagination of people. Here we have two images of her by Ben Grau and Hbrika.

Images ranged from test images to complete book covers. Here we have a goblin by Tihvotti and a cover design by Cyrus Rua.

There are still a couple of unfinished entries to add when they are finished, and the collection of goblin art grows. Again a big Thank-you to all of the artists who have contributed.
